A postman in a small mountain village finds a woman and her son both dead in the "grotte aux loups" (cave of wolves). He soon begins to realize than it's not natural death, and that someone in the village in behind their murder, while tragic events occur.

If Modernity fabricated madness, asylums, and automatons, it likewise redefined the imagery of monsters. The intriguing and unsettling universe of “Os lobos” merges two time periods within a single space, where stories of an 18th-century beast are reimagined by patients in a 20th-century psychiatric hospital. Through a cinematic approach that blends theater, dance, storytelling, and musical numbers, the film plays with artifice and fantasy, offering a historical reconstruction that defies conventional historical reenactment.

The film was produced and directed by Gratien Gélinas, who also plays the lead role of Fridolin, and who also wrote the screenplay. It is of course a parody of the novel by Alexandre Dumas fils, La dame aux camélias . As the press noted in 1942: “…the work is a real revenge of Quebec popular culture on French classical culture” or even “ Fridolin sticks his tongue out at France!”. The film is like a bomb. We must not forget that at the time of the premiere, Gratien Gélinas was one of the most influential authors in the province. His plays were performed in French in Quebec, and in English across Canada.
